Rules

1. The draw will be on the third week of term. Names will be drawn from a hat with the first name out at the bottom and the last at the top. Any members joining later will be added to the bottom of the ladder in the order they joined.

2. A player may challenge any other player in the ladder but it is only compulsory to accept a challenge if the challenger is one or two places below the challenged player. Refusal to play a compulsory challenge results in a win for the challenger.

3. After a challenge has been accepted the match must be played within one week. Failure to do so will result in a win for the challenger unless the challenged player has made every reasonable effort to play the game.

4. A player need not accept a second challenge from a player until 24 hours have passed since their last game.

5. If a challenge is accepted it must be played even if other matches occur that increase the gap between the two players to more than two places.

6. Ladder matches may be played at any time so long as both players inform the secretary of the result.

7. There will be four separate nights on which a player can challenge up to four places above them. All other rules still apply.

8. If a player will be absent for an extended period of time for a legitimate reason, they will be frozen in the ladder. This will remove them from the ladder, enabling other players to challenge higher players. When they return, they will resume in their original position.

9. Matches are best of three legs of 301. Nearest the bull dictates the staring player and the game must be won on a double.

10. On the final night of the ladder tournament the top four players will compete for the ladder trophy. The order of running will be 4th v 3rd, the winner will then play 2nd and the winner of this match will play the final against 1st. The final will be five games of 301.

11. Challenges may not ‘stack’. If a player has already accepted a match or is in the middle of a match, they are immune from being challenged, even if it is a compulsory challenge.

12. If a player has more than one challenge (e.g. having just finished a game), the player may choose their opponent so long as they do not disregard a compulsory challenge. The refused challenges are disregarded.

13. A player may only be challenged three times within 24 hours.

14. The Secretary’s decision is final
